Common Issues & Solutions

1. Why can’t I generate legal pages after installation?

If you are unable to generate a legal page, check.

-Both of your plugins are activated: WP Legal Pages and WP Cookie Consent.
-Your subscription is connected (Pro/Business/Agency plan).
-You’ve filled in your business/site details in the wizard before generating the page.

If it still fails, try clearing the cache and reloading the wizard.

2. Do I need a privacy policy on my website?

Yes, you need a privacy policy on your website.

If your website collects any personal information from users, such as names, email addresses, IP addresses, or analytics data, many privacy laws require you to clearly explain how that information is collected, used, and protected. Regulations like the GDPR, CCPA, CalOPPA, and others make having a privacy policy a legal requirement for many websites.

Even if your business is not located in regions with strict privacy laws, you may still need to comply if visitors from those regions access your site. A privacy policy not only helps you meet legal requirements but also builds trust with users and is often required by advertising platforms, payment gateways, and third-party services. Therefore, if your website collects any user information at all, having a privacy policy is essential.

3. How to Create GDPR Policy Pages?

To create a GDPR Cookie Policy Page, click the GDPR Cookie Policy template from the Wizard dashboard.

After selecting the template, you can see all the required data and links in the template. You will also find the shortcode [wpl_cookie_details] added at the bottom. This shortcode will render a table of cookies with details of third-party companies, cookie purpose, and links to these companies’ cookie & privacy policies.

To automatically collect cookies and cookie data, scan for available cookies using the WP COOKIE CONSENT plugin. Similarly, you can create a GDPR Privacy policy page using the ‘GDPR Privacy Policy’ template.

4. Unable to Use the WP Legal Pages Pro Plugin?

To activate and use WPLegalPages Pro, you need to install and activate the free WPLegal Pages plugin. And then upgraded to PRO.

5. Why Add a Linking Policy or An External Linking Policy?

A linking or external linking policy may be used to declare a website’s internal and external linking policy. Although this sort of policy is unusual, it can still be helpful on certain site types.

6. Why is an Antispam Policy Needed?

Spam has always been an irritant to users and a problem for many organizations. You can deal with spam. Spam is an irritant to regular users and a significant problem for many organizations. Technical measures are the principal way of dealing with spam, but legal measures can supplement them.

This template may be used to create a spam policy suitable for publication on a website or online service.

7. How Do You Translate the WP Legal Pages Plugin Using WPML?

1. Make sure that the plugin is installed and activated.

2. Install WPML and ensure that it is configured correctly. The configuration and setup guides for WPML can be found on their website here: WPML Getting Started Guide

3. Go to the WPML → String Translation page and click “Can’t find the strings you’re looking to translate?”

4 . A dialog will slide open. Select the WPLegalPages plugin and click the Scan translation files button.

5 . After the scan is complete, the page refreshes, and you can now select the “wplegalpages” in the Select string within the domain dropdown.

6 . To manually translate, click the translations link for the text in question, enter the translation, select the Translation is Complete checkbox, and click Save.

7 . You can also send strings for translation by your designated local translators or a professional translation service. You must install the WPML Translation Management module on your site to do this. Select the strings to translate and the languages to translate them into, and click on the button to add them to the translation basket.

From the Translation Basket tab of the WPML → Translation Management page, you can select the translator and send the selected texts for translation. Your local translators can access the String Translation screen and translate just the ones you sent them for translation.

8. My cookie consent banner isn’t appearing. What should I check?

Ensure you have:

1. Clear your chashe.
2. Enabled Cookie Notice under Cookie Settings > General.
3. Saved settings after making changes.

Also, check that your theme or other plugins aren’t blocking frontend scripts.

9. The “Reject” or “Manage Preferences” button doesn’t work.

This can happen if:

1. JavaScript is minified incorrectly
2. Another consent plugin is active
3. Disable duplicate consent tools and clear cache.

10. I set up Google Consent Mode, but it’s showing errors. What now?

Common solutions include:

1. Ensure the Google Tag Manager script is pasted correctly if you are using the GTM method.
2. Make sure Support Google Consent Mode (GCM) is enabled under Cookie Settings > General.
3. After enabling, click Save Changes and run the Check GCM Status again to verify.

11. The legal page links aren’t showing in my footer.

Make sure the Add Legal Pages Link to Footer option is turned ON under Legal Pages > Settings > Compliance. Also, double-check that your theme doesn’t override footer widgets.

12. My legal pages are not searchable or indexable.

If you want search engines to index your policies, enable “Show Legal Pages in Search” under the Legal Pages > Advanced settings. If turned OFF, search engines will be prevented from indexing them.

13. Do I need to manually add scripts to the script blocker?

Only for scripts not automatically detected. Third-party or custom scripts may need to be added manually.

14. Why does the cookie banner look broken on mobile?

This is usually caused by:

-Theme CSS overrides
-Custom banner styles

Switch to default design settings to test, then reapply custom styles gradually.

15. Why are consent logs missing or incomplete?

Common reasons include:

1. Logging disabled
2. Banner not live
3. User already had cookies before logging was enabled

Always test with cleared cookies or a private browser.

16. Will my site break if my subscription expires?

If your subscription ends, all PRO features will switch back to the free version until you renew.

17. Can I show the cookie banner only to EU visitors?

Yes. Geo-targeting allows banners to appear only where legally required.

18. Can I Change the Information on the Scanned Cookies?

Yes. You can edit the information in your website’s cookies, including the cookie category and purpose.

19. Will my Website Become GDPR Compliant After Installing the Plugin?

Cookie consent is just one aspect of GDPR. Installing the plugin does not guarantee compliance. You’ll still need to implement other aspects of the GDPR.

20. Can I write my own privacy policy?

Yes, you can write your own privacy policy, but it can be challenging without proper legal knowledge. A privacy policy must clearly explain how you collect, use, and protect user data while complying with laws like GDPR and CCPA. Missing important details or using incorrect wording may lead to compliance risks.

WPLP Compliance Platform helps you generate a professional and compliant privacy policy in just a few steps — no legal knowledge required.

20. Does WPLP guarantee full legal compliance?

No tool can guarantee full compliance. WPLP helps automate compliance tasks, but legal responsibility remains with the site owner.
